Glascock County School recently celebrated Red Ribbon and Bullying Prevention Week. GCCS partnered with Family Connections and Communities in Schools of Glascock County to sponsor this event. Students received special treats with the Red Ribbon Week logo, such as: ribbons, pencils, pens, lollipops, etc. Contests were held and winners received special prizes. Individual prizes were awarded for a coloring and poster contest, as well as a “commercial” creation contest. A class competition was held, and the winning class will receive an ice cream party. Points were earned for students participating in the dress theme of the day such as “United we stand against bullying and drugs day”, on which day students wore patriotic clothing. Lessons were conducted throughout the week targeting drug abuse and bullying prevention. As a symbol of their commitment to stay drug free and help make the school free of bullying, students planted red tulip bulbs around the school. Mr. Redd and his high school agriculture/FFA students facilitated planting the bulbs as students “planted their promise”. The beautiful, red flowers will bloom in the spring and annually thereafter to remind students of this commitment. While an ongoing effort exists to prevent bullying and drug abuse, this special, designated week provides fun opportunities for a concentrated effort.
